Alessandro Mendini
Born in Milan in 1931, Alessandro Mendini is a well-respected designer, artist, design manager, artist, theorist, and journalist. He wrote and edited about architecture and design for Casabella, Modo, and Domus, which are reputable publications on the subject. In the late '70s, Mendini went back to designing, where he was the main force in redefining Italian design. He was one of the heads of the Radical movement, creating products that put aesthetics above function, which was unheard of at the time.
Mendini's designs are artistic, kitschy, and reference pop culture. With Alchima Studio, he created unique furniture pieces, installations, paintings, and environments. His biggest claim to fame is the architectural project, the Groningen Museum.
